As a YouTube video creator (original content only) and hobby game designer (No fangames) I understand BOTH sides of the debatte and I’d like to share my thoughts on this.

First I’d like to start with technicalities that DO NOT refelect my views:

As copyright holder Nintendo has every right to do with their stuff whatever the fuck they want

As player you are privileged to play a game somebody made for your enjoyment

When you pay for a game, it is not YOURS – it still belongs to the creator, you just have the right to play it since you paid for that right (this will be important later)

Per copyright you are not allowed to use any part of the game for your personal profit

Now with that being said, here are my sixteen dollars and seven cents for this topic:

Lets Play videos are a nice but ultimately redundant thing. It is like watching a football game on TV, really, where somebody else plays a game for your enjoyment. Entertaining? Of course! Redundant? Absolutely. Personally I watch A LOT of StarCraft II replays simply because I want to learn from the best. ESports are a new thing and will grow tremendously in the newxt few years, beyond the borders of conventional gaming. Unfortunately the entire discussion concentrates on lets play videos here and NOT on the real topic at hand.

You see, once you realize where Nintendo is going with this you see how far the impacts are. Smooth McGroove is a fantastic musician and his videos will be monetized by Nintendo as well since he acapella remixes Nintendo music. It is his own work and his own creation but he gets snabbed because he is a Nintendo fan. Stemage does this fantastic thing called Metroid Metal and he too will see the result of this. In both of these cases nothing happened yet, but it eventually will.

Because such is the nature of big companies. Those decisions are not made by the people that create the games, the people that write the music or even Iwata who is the standup guy for the desicions. Those decisions are made by a legal department, men in suits that never played a game and couldn’t care less. And that is the entire problem.

Warner Brothers got rightfully sued by the creators of Nyan Cat for using Nyan Cat in Scribblenauts without asking. Yet the very same company, Warner Brothers, is a huge driving force behind suing other people for THEIR copyright, want to enact PIPA and SOPA and are all for control over the internet.

Now this relates to this topic. You see there are A LOT of people who upload soundtracks, cutscenes and other things from games to YouTube. The problem here lies within the fact that those people did nothing but just upload other peoples work and get paid for it, if monetizing is available. And this is where the idea originated: Nintendo wanted people not to get money for their work. Harmless enough.

But the problem lies deeper: Lets players who ultimately invest tons of hours into a game and even some time and work into a GOOD lets play get snubbed over. Remixers and re-creators that do homages and sometimes even completely self made things get the boot because they use things owned by Nintendo. It has been like that for movies since years, and now Nintendo was the first to do the same thing. I have a video on my channel, 100% self made stuff that was blocked for monetizing because a scene in it LOOKED SIMILAR to a scene from a movie and thus they believed that scene could be from that movie and they shut of monetizing.

Now the main question is, should you be able to get money from something you did not create yourself and if you did create it yourself in parts, how far does that effect the monetizing of your work in contrast to Nintendos work?

I go back to Smooth McGroove since he is a great guy. As said, he created acapella music of videogame tunes. He does it all himself, he uses famous melodies. Similar to what Nick Pitera does, really. So he has 100% of the work, except for that fact that he uses tunes by other people.

Companies, especially Nintendo, want to keep their franchises safe above all else. They dont want people to use their stuff because its about branding. They shut down a porn parody of super Mario because Mario does not do porn. Nobody cared that the movie was bad and a parody, it was shut down. Because branding matters.

Since you dont own the game you bought (see, i told you that gets important) you are only allowed to play it. You are not allowed to do anything else with it. And if your penis doesn’t fit into the disc hole (poor you if it does) what else can you do with a game anyways? Record it of course. But you are not allowed to since technically its not your game.

So how can we fix this? Not really. It’s up to the companies to think about that. Nintendo wants you to use their service for their stuff. That is the sole reason Sony created the share button for the PS4. Not to make life easier for you, but to control where you uplaod your lets plays. Or do you think Sony will pay you for uploading something to their station?

Here are a few things Nintendo COULD do:

Split monetizing: Have a standard deal contractually setteled for everyone who has original work with Nintendo content. They did that with Twilight Symphony. They check if your work is okay by their rules and if it is they split the money you/they get from the video. Probably not going to happen since it is a long and expensive process.

Monetize only for 1:1 content: Just monetize things that are unchanged like soundtrack videos or cutscenes. Probably not going to happen due to manpower being involved

Establish new rules for monetizing: By establishing new rules, they could easily agree that Lets Players, reviewers and the likes may use their stuff. Very likely since this is what needs to happen anyway. If you do a video review or a lets play or a remix of one of their tunes, Nintendo does not monetize since you created this to support them and their games. This can easily be done with a simple checkbox or tag.

There are of course other things that could be done but for now we have to live with the fact that other companies WILL follow suit. Nintendo was the first to do so and will not be the last so get ready for this discussion to go on.

EA announced that they will not publish a Madden game for Wii U this year. This decision led many a fanboy to rage about EA and/or Nintendo again. The PS4 is announced by Sony on March 19th and the Microsoft NextBox as I like to call it on May 21st, roughly eight months into the lifespan of the Wii U, a system badly named, under advertised and overpriced. While nobody, not even Nintendo seems to know what the general message about the Wii U is, Sony pounds the drums of social here and social there, sharing and the likes. Their complete lack of knowledge about what that actually means bites them in the ass already though – how else can it be that there was not a single woman present at the PS4 presentation – women who are the definition of social networkers. And let’s not forget the talk about DRM, always on and anti piracy measures on the NextBox, a move so obscure it raises eyebrows everywhere.

And from the coner of PC gamers I hear laughter about how PC gaming always wins, has the best graphics and so forth. The sheer fact that it is expensive as fuck to get a real gaming PC that needs to be upgraded regularly, paired with the fact that PC gaming has changed from high exclusive titles to online only gaming is something the PC crowd ignores. True, games like StarCraft II are fantastic but in terms of multiplatform releases the PC is crap. While exclusives shine on the system the pure fact is that the gaming market in general is headed towards a crash unseen since the early 80ies and the so called hardcore gamers are to blame. And you thought casual gamers are the bane of gaming – turns out you are wrong.

See, here is the catch: Companies like EA or Activision don’t give a shit about you. They want to make money. Now I know some of you say “they are a company their goal is it to make money” but that is not an excuse for fucking with you. EVERY company is about makeing money, the difference here is that ONLY in gaming are you able to fuck your customers in the ass with the biggest dildo you can find and get away with it.

Imagine buying a car. You can buy it and take it home with you. But you better not go faster than 60 because if you do the car will break apart. To fix that you will ahve to wait until we have time to fix that. Or you can buy a season pass where we wil fix it right away. Also you better don’t use the brakes because they don’t work. You can buy them online for some extra cash. But you can’t resell the car because we don’t like that. In fact it is not even your car. You paid for it but it is still our car and you just have the right to use it. And every three months or so we will release a spare part for your car you might or migth or might not need – you have to pay that extra of course. And after a year we release the same car with all the features included for the same price as the new one without features was. And thenw e drop the line and if you need service because something is still not working right – well good luck with that.

Now my question is, if you knew all that, would you buy that car? You probably wouldn’t. I wouldn’t, thats for sure. I would buy a car that is mine once bought, has everything a car needs to work and that I can resell if I want to or bring to a service station if needed.

So how come it is okay to be treated like that when it comes to games? Current market is horrible, you pay roughly 70 bucks now for a beta version that needs at least three months to get all the bugfix patches applied and then you are sold additional content for an extra price. Perhaps on disc DLC or day 1 DLC are available before the bugfix patches are and with some games you simply can’t play them if you don’t have internet access for one reason or the other.

Now I hear you say: “Well then get better internet” but that is not the point: You already paid for the game you should not be required to get better internet. And some of us even can’t get better internet. Stop apologizing for shit gaming companies feed you!

Here is the thing: The Wii U is underpowered in comparison to the next big consoles and current PCs. But NEVER, EVER in the history of gaming has the strongest console won. Usually the strongest console LOSES the “console war” completely. Never in the history of gaming was it a good thing if companies treated their customers like shit. Remember Acclaim? The PS4 might be powerful and have tons of social features but nobody cares. If you care ask yourself WHY do you care? Does it make the games better? Does it make them cheaper to develop and buy? Does feature X do anything that supports the game besides filling the pockets of executives with your money?

How come we still discuss those things? Isn’t it common knowledge that graphics don’t matter anymore? Are you seriously telling me you would not play a fantastic game simply because it does not feature as many polygons as another game or because other games have better shaders?

Take Call of Duty VS Battlefield for example. Battlefield has much better graphics, they go all out to make the game prettier and better than Call of Duty. And yet, Call of Duty outsells Battlefield every single year. If graphics are so important, why is that happening then? Then there is raw power: The more processing power you have, the more you can use and your userbase expects you to use. But that means that game development gets even more expensive. We live in a time where a game can sell four million and still be considered a total flop. Eidos sold almost 4 million copies of Tomb Raider across all platforms for 65 bucks each and still made a loss off of that game. That shoudl tell you how expensive the development of that title was.

There is only one place the gaming industry can go from this point on, and that is down. On one side we have high development costs for dozens of triple A games that just wont sell, on the otehr hand we have 99 cent titles that every asshole with a calculator can develop on his smartphone that flood the market with shit. And then there are the game sin between that get lost ins a crowd of AAA games and shit. And nobody makes a profit.

And instead of looking at the problem from the right angle they plame it on piracy. Yes, piracy is a bad thing but it is not the reason gaming is in such a shithole. Hardcore gamers are. Because for the last fifteen years hey have beens crewed over by publishers and still defend them to the point where a company like EA can re-sell them the same game over and over again and they still defent the publisher. But that market grows smaller every year simply because most of us grow up and realize that it is a shit way of gaming.

And the future is even worse. As unemployment rises (and don’t blame that on Obama) worldwide due to the fact that we get more and more people for jobs that can more and more be done by computers and robots, people simply wont have the cash to spend more and more on gaming. And the generation that actually are hardcore gamers, mostly teenagers and men in their early twenties won’t be able to sustain the market anymore. And people like me who can actually afford games don’t want to get a huge dildo rammed up our metaphorical asses. We don’t buy hundrets of games anymore since we don’t care and even if we care we don’t have the time.

At one point I owned all current gen consoles. The PS3, The Wii and the XBox 360. Then I sold the 360 because I neither have the time nor the patience nor the interest to pay fifteen bucks or so a month for an online service where I have to listen to pimple faced teeny kids telling me how hard the fucked my mom. Three hairs on their nutsack, one of those is dripping but big mouths. And generally speaking I don’t care about onlineg aming since I enjyo playing games alone. So gone was the 360, my multiplatform titles and my exclusives. I re-purchased the Assassin’s Creed games for the PS3 (mostly in Game of the Year editions or something) and am happy with that ever since. And while I could afford a Wii U or a PS4 or a NextBox i am in no rush to buy one. I will buy the Wii U because I want to play Zelda and Smash Bros. But I won’t buy a NextBox or a PS4 simply because i have no interest in better graphics or social gaming. You know what I want? I want a retail copy of a game, without bugs if possible, complete where I don’t have to buy DLC or shit that I can resell whenever I feel like it, without tacked on multiplayer or stuff. And I am not alone.

Publishers believe that every game needs to have mulitplayer or it won’t sell. That’s not true. Publisher think the used games market is the worst evil ever. Also not true. Piracy ruins gaming – not true. Here is the truth about those things:

Multiplayer only works for games where the multiplayer is any good, preferably not in a genre where you already have better multiplayer games. Of what use is it to me that Battlefield is so pretty and has so many great muliplayer features if all my friends play Call of Duty? NOTHING!

Used games are a great way to actually introduce people to gaming. Instead of condemning it, publishers should embrace it. There is the same flawed thinking at work here like with piracy.

They believe if somebody buys a game used or pirates it, they lost a sale. But that s not true. Those people mostly would not have bought the game in the first place. And if they would, they would probably not pay the 65-70 bucks publishers wanted for it.

You see, gaming is expensive. I bought Assassins Creed III for 100 bucks because I wanted the Freedom edition which came with a statue of connor, exclusive art and some DLC. I like merchandise. Then I bought the additional DLC packs. Then I bought all three episodes of the Tyranny of King Washington – entirely new content so I gladly payed that money. In the end I spent 140 bucks on one game. That is a lot of money. Now the cheapest way to get ACIII at the moment would be a used copy for 45 bucks or so. If you buy it new, it’s still 70. And there is the problem: A newcoemr to the series, a parent or somebody who only occassionally plays since he/she has little time won’t spend 70 bucks on a game. No, this person will buy the used game since it is cheaper. If there is no used game around, this person WILL NOT BUY THE NEW VERSION since the interest is just not big enough.

SO either way, Ubisoft has not lost a sale. Ubisoft never made that sale in the first place. The only way it would have made the sale would have been if the game was 40 bucks to start with. And that right there is the general idea. You can NEVER stop pirates from pirating. But you can give themr easons not to pirate. If companies would not invest millions of dollars in DRM, anti piracy measures or tacked on multiplayer, they could focus on good gaming experiences. A game does not need to be 80 hours long with dozens of multiplayer maps to be good. A game does not need a hollywood actress to voice the protagonist and it does not need Hans Zimmer to fucking score some music you don’t hear anyway because a twelve year old has verbal diarrhea. You don’t need those things.

Look, before you now all go either insane on me, TLDR this or otherwise want to enlighten me in which ways I am fat and my mom should have aborted me, fact is, hardcore gamers are the reason gaming fails so hard right now. Only if somebody steps up and releases a dedicated gaming system that only does gaming and not everything, with games that dont cost billions to make and dont need gazillions to make a profit, with games that dont need DRM and whatnot and that sell for 45-50 bucks, the market WILL go down and there is NOBODY to blame but yourself. That is the reason indie gaming is so big right now. Indies know their shit. I am an indie developer myself. I even go a step forward and emply the freeware with tipping model.

You can play any of my games for free. No DRM, no account, no shit. Download the game, play it. You like it you can tip me on paypal. You don’t`No problem either since you haven’t paid for it anyway. It’s a nice hobby I have and it’s a lot of fun.

I left out A LOT of points here simply because the article is already too long. But in the end it all boils down to this: Console manufacturers: Release game consoles, cut the other shit nobody needs. Game developers: Develop smaller games with less tacked on shit for less money. Publishers: The market can not handle dozens of AAA games. Go smaller. Stop fucking your customers over. And last but not least Gamers: DONT LET GAME COMPANIES FUCK YOU OVER!

So here is my take what needs to be done to make it a better film:

First off, I liked the film. It had its flaws, but it was not bad overall. The thing is, it could easily be better if Sony would just get their heads out of their asses and release an extended cut. Here is what they would need to change:

Re-insert the Lizard mid transformation scene. There was a scene where Dr. Connors is in the sewers contemplating and then the lizard persona slowly takes over. Put that back in, it is great!

Re-insert the Connors with his son scene. Because it is also great.

Re-insert the death of Dr. Ratha scene. There is a scene where Dr. Ratha confronts Lizard in the sewers. Ratha then gets killed by Connors. Put that one back in. We never learned what happened to Ratha in the theatrical cut and it is a crucial scene. It also features more labcoat on Lizard which is always a plus.

And now after the re-insertions we go to what needs to be cut:

Cut the overly kitschy and riddiculous crane scene. Okay I get it the crane guy wants to help Spider-Man. But the cranes that conviniently line up to Oscorp tower and the cop that stops traffic for Spidey, those things are just dumb. So cut them. Let the crane guy help Spidey and then have Spidey just swing to the tower. Cut the guys in the other cranes, the scene where we see the cranes moving and the scene where the cop stops traffic. Not only would it be less kitschy it would also make the scene more powerful since it shows us now that Spidey is capable all by himself not just because others help him.

Cut down the highschool drama. Yeah I get it its a highschol drama. Just cut a few minutes here and there is all I ask for.

Cut the last Scene in the school. You know the one: Where Peter tells Gwen that he does not intend to keep his promise to her dad. It is a dumb scene and they pick the promise plot back up in the sequel so just cut it here and all is well.

Replace the Soundtrack. Because the Soundtrack really sucks. I give you that it is expensive to do so, okay, then at least replace the soundtrack during the lizard fight in the school. Because happy jingle sounds while fighting a deadly creature just plain sucks. Or leave the Soundtrack off in that scene. Not only would it make the fight much more brutal, it would also make the brilliant Stan Lee (who is always brilliant no matter what) scene even funier! How come nobody gets a Spider-Man soundtrack right?

And that’s that for the film. And now how to fix Spider-Man as a comic:

Have a great Peter Parker Story. The End.

So Wind Waker is coming to the WiiU in HD. And I think this would be the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to fix the flaws of the game. This would make it the best 3D Zelda up to date. And it’s not even a lot of work.

First of all, let’s discuss what I think are the flaws and where they come from. Back in the GameCube era, the system was not selling well. So Nintendo decided to release Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker. The problem was, both games neede d more development time. While Mario Sunshine could have used a few months more to fix some bugs and gameplay weakness, Wind Waker could easily have used another year.

As we know now, they cut two dungeons and at least two treasure islands from the game. So they added that tedious triforce quest to the game to make it longer. Furthermore, a few unfinished levels were patched up and released into the game. The result are some lackluster times within the game and of course that long, expensive, annoying Tingle overusing quest where you have to find eight triforce charts, have Tingle decipher them for a ludricious price and then go out and find the triforce pieces.

Now how to fix that for the HD re-release? Well, simply enough: I doubt Nintendo will put in the dungeons they cut. But they don’t have to. All theyhave to do is pace the game better and polish the levels that lack a little. This is how to do it:

Make the Triforce Quest available from the start. Let the player find the first Triforce chart in the Forsaken Fortress, during the games stealth mission. Make sure the player can’t advance without the chart. That way you are introduced to the charts early on. You can’t read it, so you know you have to find a way to decipher it. When you meet tingle later on Windfall Island, he tells you he can decipher the chart. He looks at the chart you already have and deciphers it for a smaller price because you freed him and tells you to visit him if you have more charts.
Now all you have to do is to make sure the player finds the charts throughout the game and regularly decipers them so that he picks p the triforce pieces. This is easily done by connecting storyevents to the triforce pieces. For example have the Tower of Gods not appear before the player has at least three triforce pieces. Then another piece each to open the next two dungeons. And Zelda kindapped after you have seven. That way you make sure the player only needs to find one more piece to enter anons Tower. Bam, pacing problem solved nicely. And it would be much more fun this way.

Add in a few new secret locations/islands. Perhaps add in a Retro Island, a set of islands shaped like previous Nintendo consoles (to get back to the idea of GameCube island of the orgiginal that was cut) and add in back another island or two, just to get a new feel out of the game.

Patch up the uninspired bland locations. There are a few instances where the game is just plain boring. The training room on the pirate ship for example. It is functional, yes, but also ugly. The submarines that look mostly the same. Some samey caves. Those things could easily be fixed. I am not talking graphics here but variance in gameplay. Graphics of course help

Put the tingle tuner on the gamepad. This one is self explanatory really. The tingle tner was a good idea but the setup was horrible A simple tweak that could get a lot more out of the game. Especially if you follow point 1 and fix the triforce quest.

Orchestrate the main sailing music. Orchestrated music is always a good thing, and where better than during the sailing time. You sail a lot in this game and orchestrated music would make that experience much nicer. Nintendo could also orchestrate the title theme just because its a good theme.

And that’s it already. If Nintendo would do those five things, Wind Waker would be the best 3D Zelda up to this point (since I can’t talk about future games obviously) and one of the best Zelda games ever (right behind A Link to the Past, this much I can say :p). Everybody would be happy. It would be a WiiU killer app (it already is, but still) and would statisfy newcomers and even those of us who know the game in and out

At a certain gaming forum, there was a discussion I had with fellow readers. And there came a point when I once again said that I think Nintendo should do VC gaes in Widescreen and HD if possible (Mario Sunshine comes to mind) because it would NOT be hard to do. And then somebody asked me why companies should. back in the old days, we had one game and a console and we were lucky if we got multiplatform releases. A good point. But here is my response:

Times change. When I was a kid, ther were no cellphones, now people demand internet (which didnt exist back then either) on their phones and the ability to watch movies in HD (HD didnt exist either, we had VHS) and thats fine. So why shouldnt videogames change? Why should we accept to be screwed over by videogames again and again when we have other companies that offer other services try to cater to us?

It is a good thing we can demand and HD virtual console. Take Resident Evil 4. First, you got the GameCube game. Then, if you wanted the new features, you HAD to buy the PS2 version. If you wanted the update with slightly improved graphics and better cntrols, you HAD to buy the Wii Version. And if you wanted HD; you HAD to buy the PS3/360 version. So you payed for the same game 4 times.
Is it REALLY too much to ask that companies accept that we DONT buy the same game multiple times? How hard can it be to have a gamer account that registers your games and if there is an update available, you get it for free OR AT LEAST PAY LESS if you already own the game.

Think of it: You own Megaman 3 for Wii Virtual console. Now, the game gets released on 3DS. So you need to buy it again. But if you had it connected, you could re-download it for free because you already paid for it on Wii. You should also be able to have it on you WiiU, not in the dreaded Wii mode though, but on your WiiU mode. Why? Because you PAID FOR THE GAME. It works with movies. I bought a blu ray and can watch that on my TV. Nowadays, most blurays come with digital copy and dvd, so that I can put the dvd into a portable dvd player, give it to my mom or watch it at a friends house who does not have a bluray player. Also, I have a digital copy that I can put on my tablet or phone. And this is a good thing.

Game companies screw us over big time. They demand us to pay up to 70 bucks for a game (and that is moderate, compared to Australia) for which we basically are BETA TESTERS because modern games ship not when they are done, but when most profit can be made. So you have to live with a buggy piece of software which will, IF YOU ARE LUCKY AND THE GAME SOLD, be patched later. Or maybe never. But you paid 70 bucks. Then you get DLC and whatnot that was already on the disc, already in the game and the developers just chose to lock that portion of the game so you have to pay more. And then six months later, there is the game of the year edition for another 60 bucks that has all the patches and DLC on the disc, but features a new EXCLUSIVE MISSION so that you have AGAIN pay full price.

How can you NOT feel screwed over?

So please excuse me when I demand Nintendo relases their N64 and GC games in Widescreen HD if possible (which it is most of the time) because If I have to pay for the Wind Waker again, I would at least prefer to get an experience I don’t get on my cube. Or else, I will just hook up my cube or in that case, an Emulator, which allows me to play the game I ALREADY PAID FOR in widescreen.

Final point: If game publishers want less of a used games market, perhaps they should focus on releasing complete games to a reasonable price instead of incomplete buggy beta versions for 70 bucks. And if Nintendo seriously wants me to buy a WiiU, they should provide features I am actually interested in. The gamepad is nice. But GameCube WideScreen HD releases would be an added bonus and a definitive system seller in the case of Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker. Just sayan.

So I have read the issue twice by now. I also read the avenging Spider-Man #15.1 to see where we go from here. And this is a spoilerific review. You have been warned!

ASM #700 tells the story of Peters struggle to survive long enough inside Doc Ocks body to transfer his brain back into his body. As you migth remember, in ASM 698 it was revealed that Ock switched bodies with Peter. In 699 Pock brocke out from prison and in 700 he switches bodies back.

Except he doesn’t. You see, Peterpuss took precautions so that this could not happen. The result was Peter transfering everything in his brain back to his body, except his soul. Ock then experienced Peters life from Peters point of view and realized what a great man Peter was so he decides to continue being Spider-Man, just better, right before Peter dies. And then Peter dies and Doc Ock becomes the Surperior Spider-Man.

If that soudns dumb to you, well that is because it is. Back in the 90ies we had Ben Reilly be Spider-Man. That was a MUCH BETTER IDEA than this one, and it still did not work. Over in the Ultimate Universe we have Miles Morales being Spider-Man, which is a dumb idea to begin with but still better than this one.

My main problem with this storyline is teh same I had with the Death of ultimate Spider-Man, namely that Peter Parker died.

You see, during the Clone Saga, Peter was alive and living a happy life with Mary Jane in Portland. That was a good decision. First, we got to see him every now and then. Second, if we wanted some Peter as Spider-Man action, we could get it. Third, it was easy bringing Peter back as Spider-Man, since all he had to do is put on the suit and go at it. And as it turned out, that’s exactly what happened when they brought him back as Spider-Man at the end of the Clone Saga.

Now, I know that Peter will return to be Spider-Man in the classic Marvel Universe. Because when sales fall, he will be brought back in an overly convoluted way. Too bad Slott showed him in heaven, a boring heaven with all his loved ones nontheless, but heaven. (Why is heaven so boring? If heaven is my personal paradise, last thing I want to see are my relatives. I want it to look like a mix between TRON Legacy and Hyrule, with a Playboy Mansion and the biggest TV in the history of mankind.) So when they bring Pete back, imagine how frustratedhe is being back HERE when he was in heaven. Remember Buffy, Season 6? Yeah…

Now, not everything is bad. The story, while bad, was well paced and nicely written, with some cool setups, nice payoffs and solid dialogue. The art was solid, and I am not a fan of Ramos’ artwork, but it was good here. But still, a bad story is a bad story. Actually, it was not that bad, it was good until the brainswap failed. The reasoning behind this pas probably not a decision Slott made, but was decided by the higher ups to shake things up because shakeups =sales. Like Miles Morales in Ultimate (I know Bendis said it was his idea, but i find that to be highly unbelievable because he set so many plot points up for Peter. Why do that when you know you kill him? Either because you never planned on killing him or you arejust a pathetic excuse for a writer. And Bendis may be a horrible plotter, but he is a good writer) this new “Surperior” Spider-Man is just a gimmick, and will quickly be forgotten.

So what is my final verdict? Well, go buy the Issue, it will become a collectors item. Is it any good? Yes, the first two thirds are very good (minus that heaven thingy, that was horrible) and the backup material is okay. But overall, the ending just sucks. Like I did with One More Day, I will stop reading Spider-Man until this Shitfest is over (Ironically, I got back to Spider-Man with #600, the Issue where Slott claimed the entire idea originated) which will rpboably be by the time the next movie comes out.

Smash Bros. ‘Nuff said. Here is how this works: I write down my ideas for the new smash bros game. You comment. I’ll add your ideas to this topic. You share, so that more people pitch in their ideas. Easy as Stiffler’s mom. Here we go:

Characters:

Simon Belmont – A classic Character from the Castlevania Series. Who does not want that? Konami pitched in Snake last time, they should allow Simon to be in this time, especially with Mirror of Fate coming out for 3DS.
Simon would be a mid range character similar to Link in terms of speed and power, since he is also gadget based. His stage should be a classic Castlevania stage, like Clock Tower or Entrance Hall (even though clock Tower would have more stage hazard) or maybe the dungeon.
Stage music should include”Vampire Killer” “Bloody Tears” “Theme of Simon” and “Wicked Child”. At least two helper trophies should be included: Trevor and Christopher (who gets too little love anyways).
His outfits should be the classic brown one with the leather armor. Skin changes include Red Armor from Castlevania II, Grey Armor from Super Castlevania 4 and a Black Armor for added coolness.
Movelist:
A – Whip Attacks
B – Knife Throw
Up B – Whip Swing
Down B – Holy Water
Left/Right B – Axe
Smash Ball – Holy Cross (Symphony of the Night Styled Item Crash)

Stages:

Termina Field – A stage from Majora’s Mask. The moon is collapsing over the stage. The idea here is it to adjust the moon collapsing to the timer you set for the round, so that the moon is always the ender of the round. In the end, everybody dies anyway, so that even the perfect players die at least once. This should even out the score and pose a threat at the same time.

So, post your ideas in the comments and let’s seehow far we can get with this^^

This is a sequel to an article I wrote a while ago. You don’t have to read that old article to understand this one, I will start from scratch. This is how I would create a Zelda game for the Wii U. So let us begin.

The development should be a coproduction between Nintendo EAD and Retro Studios. Retro should handle the visual aspect and the bulk of the work, while EAD should be overseeing, doing the sound design and quality control. Similar to what they did with the Metroid Prime games, this game would re-invent what Zelda is while staying true to what we all love about the series.

Gameplay:
Basic gameplay is similar to all other 3D Zelda games. You control Link with the analog stick, use the face buttons to fight through a 3 Dimensional world. You use the Gamepad screen as interface for your items and puches, just like in Ocarina of Time 3D: But there is a twist:

In this game, you control three different links from three different realities with three different gameplay styles, visual styles and features. The three Links can not interact with each other, except for the titular Ark of Reality, a mystical box that allows every Link to use the items inside. The Ark has a limtied capacity of items, so you can not sotre all your items in there. To make the switch work, puzzles are based around the fact that you need a Link from another reality to find an item and put it into the box, so that Link from another reality can use it. To make this work, it is important that you can switch between links on the fly, at any given time, except boss battles of course.

The game is set around the fact that there is a split timeline with three different realities. So you can play as three links from all three realities with different skills and styles. Have a small rundown on the games various playing and visual styles:

Child Timeline Link – The REAL timeline, if you can say as much, is the child timeline. The Link here is an adult, older than any other Link before him. he is already a knight, a fierce warrior and very powerful. The visual style would be a mix between Twilight Princess and Castlevania – Lords of Shadow. This Link is a powerhouse, very direct, less item dependent and more of a get in there and kill the bad guys type of person. He is very skilled in direct combat. Since there is not tat much magic in this world, he has no magic meter and can only use rudimentary magical skills. But since this reality has been peaceful for a very long time, it is the wealthiest, so rupees are not an Issue.

This screenshot mockup shows how the child Timeline could look. It applies a semi-realistic visual style similar to Twilight Princess.

Adult Timeline Link – Of course this would be set after Spirit Tracks, so this timeline is technologically very advanced. This Link here is a child, and the visual style is of course Wind Waker inspired. The Child Link is the weakest, but his speciality is adapting and blending aswell as stealth. He can climb and hide, making his gameplay more like Assassin’s Creed. Of course the typical Zelda gameplay is there, but there are sequences where you need to hide and follow somebody unseen. Wind Waker already had sequences like that, so it’s not a radical change. Since this timeline is technologically advanced, there is no magic at all, but rather sophisticated technology, like motors or guns. This link is very talented in hit and run tactics, so he would use more distance weapons and items than any other Link.

This mockup of the adult Timeline features the iconic Wind Waker look. I added depth of field to the scene to show how this technique could enhance the HD picture.

Classic Timeline Link – Ravaged by war and despair, the classic timeline is the poorest of them all, and it shows. The muted color palette of the Skyward Sword visual style reminds us more of A Link to the Past than anything, but it looks very good. This Link is a teenager and very skilled in magic. He has a magic meter and is able to perform a lot of spells. His gameplay would be the most classic Zelda gameplay, with no stealth and no brute force battles, but with cunning, tactics and of course a lot of magic. The spells would range from attack to deflect aswell as replacing items. Why carry a bow if you can shoot blasts from your sword?

The classic timeline would feature a style similar to Skyward Sword, but with a different color palette, as this mockup shows.

The general idea is it to have these Links interact indirectly through their avatar, a goddess like spirit who is the keeper of the Ark of Reality. She talks to all three of them and informs them about what the other two are currently doing. Each Link has three dungeons to solve with one central dungeon that connects the timelines. This central dungeon is of course home to the evil in tis game, which would be a new creature. But I talk more about the story later.

So how would the mission design in this game look? Have an example:
The quest begins with the adult Link arriving in front of his second dungeon. He starts into a group of Moblins and takes them out fast and fiercly. He then realizes that it is impossible for him to open the door, because he would need a bomb to blow up a rock in front of it. But he has no bombs. He is a knight, not a craftsman. So we switch over to child Link and his cute cartoon graphical style. When we last saw child Link, he was inside his second Dungeon, looking for a way to open a door. But the switch is rusty, and he can’t advance. Lucky him, adult Link found the Hammer and out it into the Ark of Reality. So child Link uses that hammer to smash the switch. Inside, he finds a clock. He puts the clock into his Ark of Reality and we change to teen Link, who faces the challenge of crumbling platforms he needs to cross. But luckily, he can magically change the clock and time around him slowslong enough for him to pass the crumbling platforms before they break down. There, he finds the bombs, which of course he puts inside his Ark of Reality for adult Link to use. But the Ark is full. So he removes an item and places it into his pouch. Adult Link takes the bombs and blows the door open. But once inside, he can’t pass, because he needs his hammer back. But teen Link just removed the hammer from the Ark. So he removes the clock instead to put the hammer back in. Adult Link will need the clock lateron for a trading game, but that is of no importance right now. He has the hammer and continues his quest…

Now imagine that setting with not only the three visual styles, but also the three gameplay styles and of course, three different musical styles. While adult Link has some classical score going on for him, teen Link is more contemporary, featuring slight guitars in the music. Of course child Link has the music a little bit more playful. All three dungeons hve previously used music adapted for their respecitve zone. However, the music used was only used in the respecitve timeline. So for instance, classic Timeline teen Link has the music from the zelda 1 Dungeons, the Zelda 2 Temples and the Light World Temples for his three dungeons while child Link from the adult Timeline has music from Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks inside the dungeons.

This playstyle could extend to even minigames. Imagine adult timeline having a minigame similar to the cave of ordeals, or trainign recruits for the knight academy or something like that. Child link has a game of hide and seek or follow the children unseen through the bushes and teenager Link could have a minigame where he uses the money from adult Link to rebuild Hyrule, like Ezio did in Assassin’s Creed II. The shift in style and focus makes the game unique and also very new each time. That is why it’s important that you can switch between the Links on the fly, without the need to go to a special dungeon. It needs to be easy to do.

So what about the story for a game like this? Well, of course here we tap into the tri-timeline thing aswell. Now, this game would be set after all other games, so it would be the perfect starting point for future Zelda games. It is set after Adventure of Link, after Spirit Tracks and after Twilight Princess. That means that Nintendo could easily put two games before that in the child Timeline and one into the adult Timeline but none into the classic Timeline. And here is my pitch for the story:

A demonic force known as the reality force exists between the realms. One day, this demonic force was set free by an evil scorcerer who used force crystals to find the triforce. This evil force took over the scorcerer and used its powers to claim the trifroce. However, since he exosted between the realms, he was split into three parts, and each part only claimed one part of the triforce. He now seeks the Ark of Reality, whose power would allow him to put all three Triforce parts together and wish for the realities to merge. This would grant him his full power again and he would become a god like deity.
The keeper of the Ark seeks to prevent that, so she contacts the chosen hero in all three timelines to stop the demonic scorcerer and prevent the merging of the realities.

There is a lot left I could tell you about this vision of Zelda I have, and I might update this article when i decide to do so. For now, ejoy the thought of what could be. Who knows? maybe somebody forwards this idea to Nintendo? Maybe they like it. They could use it, I would encourage them. Until then, keep dreaming
